I interviewed Paul Isola from Breed 77 for The Linc, have a gander!
Popular Gibraltarian five-piece band Breed 77 released their politically-tinged LP “Insects” last year, and have recently finished a UK tour in support of it. We catch up with vocalist Paul Isola for a quick chat during his hectic schedule.
“Insects” is an album primarily about the current state of the UK and the world in general in terms of the economy, war and the government.
Isola explains: “I think the overall feeling is one of futility, we are governed by non-elected men in suits. I think everyone is aware that industry rules and that they are behind politics that seem to favour big business. Ignorance is no longer the problem, it’s apathy.”
Here we go again, another select ten tracks for your listening delight. Don’t complain that they’re not on the ‘cutting edge’ of the modern music scene, because a lot of that music is tripe. Here’s ten songs that are rather tasty.
Haven’t got Spotify? Don’t worry! Starting today the Music On The Mind playlist is also on We7.com! Which means you don’t have to sign up for anything, but there is slightly more adverts.
Sadly due to what I’m believing is licensing or copyright, We7 only has a preview of NOFX – The Brews. But don’t worry, listen to it below instead! Isn’t the internet wonderful?
A review of Polish rockers Black River’s latest album for One Metal.
With what seems to be the norm as of late, mainland Europe bands are trying to prove to the rest of the continent and the world that they mean business. Polish rockers Black River are no exception, fusing elements of Down, King Diamond and Eden’s Curse. With their unique blend of modern metal and old school rock, Black River are lifting the sword for Polish rock and marching onward.
A look at this years Grammy awards for the Lincoln student newspaper The Linc.
This Sunday sees the USA kick-start the music award ceremony calendar with the Grammys. The event will be the 52nd Grammy awards ceremony, and as ever, there is some fierce competition, with umpteen categories to be won. Here’s a rundown of some of the primary categories and our predictions for Sunday night:
Record Of The Year
So here it is. 365 days worth of every musicians work condensed into five tracks which sum up 2009. It is going to be a close call; four out of the five feature in nearly every club all over the world – “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas is even played in Lincoln’s Sugarcubes. However Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” also took the year by storm, again played throughout clubs and radio stations across the globe. Sadly, it looks as though Kings Of Leon will lose out with “Use Somebody”. As good as the song is, it’s not had as much of an impact as “I Gotta Feeling” or “Poker Face”. Beyoncé’s “Halo” and Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” are again worthy of a mention, but just aren’t as popular as Black Eyed Peas or Lady Gaga.
I have recently interviewed Slaves To Gravity for Lincoln student newspaper The Linc. Check it out!
Since 2006, London hard-rockers Slaves To Gravity have been rapidly making a name for themselves through touring and the odd single here and there. With a new album due for release later this year, we caught up with frontman Tommy Gleeson.
Describing Slaves to Gravity (STG) as “the audio equivalent of a bare-knuckle fight between Adolf Hitler and Mahatma Ghandi, with a big hearted homeless alcoholic as referee,” Tommy is as much about having fun as he is playing music. This fun-loving attitude can be seen onstage during their live performances; the band are never ones to just stand still and plod through songs. STG have more energy than an Energizer bunny on a Red Bull binge.
The first Spotify playlist of the new year! 10 tracks of great tunes ranging from dubstep to stadium rock, you should hopefully discover something new – and who doesn’t love that?
Welcome to 321 words about nothing. That’s right there is literally nothing to report. Not that there is nothing going on in general, but according to the usual music news sources there is nothing happening. Yes there’s a few tours being announced here and there, some band you’ve never heard of is releasing a supposedly ‘long awaited’ debut album, but there’s no actual news. Read the rest of this entry »
Check out my review of the hardcore punks latest album over at OneMetal.com!
As of late the newly thriving UK punk scene has been heading in a different, heavier direction. Along with the anarchic lyrics and careless abandon for any noticeable melody, UK punk has also been injected with a high dosage of metal. This can be heard in the latest offerings from Blackhole, The Plight and the St. Alban quintet Your Demise…
It happened, it bloody well happened didn’t it! Rage Against The Machine made it the Christmas number one spot in the UK and beat the sodding X Factor for the first time in five years. Since joining the group on Facebook a few weeks ago I thought it was just going to be another group that tries to achieve something but none of the group members actually do anything about it – this though was different. The review has just been published over at OneMetal.com, check it out!
If you accidentally strolled into the basement of Nottingham’s Rock City you could be forgiven for thinking you’d stumbled upon an amateur production of Pirates of the Caribbean. Swords and feathery hats aplenty, it was a dedicated fanbase that tonight’s headliners have amassed. Before the innovators of “True Scottish Pirate Metal” took to the stage, melodic metallers Eden’s Curse had the job of warming up the surly seadogs.
